The Doctoral School of Earth Sciences organizes doctoral studies in the natural sciences in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Graz. There is close cooperation with Graz University of Technology (NAWI Graz) within the framework of the NAWI Graz Geo Centre, but the doctoral schools are currently still organized independently of each other.
Information for those interested in the doctoral program
If you are on this page because you are interested in studying for a doctorate at the University of Graz, then of course we look forward to welcoming you to the Doctoral School of Earth Sciences. However, your enrolment must first take place via the Admissions Office and the Doctoral School is unfortunately not your first point of contact. However, we would like to help you and would therefore like to give you a few tips on how you can become a student and what problems you might encounter.
First of all, of course, you need a project or a topic for your doctoral thesis. This project/topic may or may not be funded. Then you need to enrol as a doctoral student at the University of Graz. For this, it will be necessary to have a Master's certificate accredited - if you have not previously studied in Austria. You may also be required to provide proof of English language proficiency. If your project involves employment at the University of Graz, then some of these aspects will be more difficult and others easier due to the different requirements that exist for students from different backgrounds and countries. To overcome these hurdles, there are 2 contact points at the university that can help you:
- The WELCOME CENTER of the University of Graz under the page: https: //welcome.uni-graz.at/de/.
- The DEPARTMENT OF ACADEMIC SERVICES on the website: https: //docservice.uni-graz.at/en/
If you are planning a doctoral project for which you cannot find funding, there is also the possibility to apply for your own funding. The Austrian Academic Exchange Service ÖAD(https://oead.at/) or the Austrian Academy of Sciences(https://www.oeaw.ac.at/) are two of several institutions that fund personalized doctoral projects.
Good luck with your efforts.
